Dogs

Puppy dogs! Our dogs are the entire reason that after almost a year of no blog or Facebook page activity for Pale Blue Homestead (2016-2017), I am back to blogging again. Writing not only keeps me distracted, but it is also a release when I need it to be.

My dearest Athena turned 12 on December 17th, 2016. She had started to lose weight in November and by December I wasn't sure if she was going to make it to Christmas. She started developing cataracts, she would bump into things, the stairs were getting difficult to climb, and she was starting to have accidents in the house. In January 2017 we made the decision to put her down. This was by far the hardest decision we've had to make together. On January 20th, we said good-bye to our first baby. We will now memorialize her with Athena's Garden, which is currently in the planning stage.

Our other dog Apollo (an American Eskimo Spitz like Athena) is 6 1/2 (Born August 30th, 2010). (Yes we like Greek Mythology) He is Luke's best friend. Always looking to him for approval, jumping up into his lap, laying under his desk.

He is also the reason that at the moment we have decided to not get another dog. That may change as time goes on, but right now we have so many other animals to take care of as well, and Apollo can be pretty needy and jealous. We aren't sure yet if Athena's death will mark a change in him, but for right now we will be a one dog family and spoil him.
